    We are currently seeking an Operations Manager to join GB Railfreight on a permanent basis to manage our operations in the North Manchester/West Yorkshire region. The successful candidate will be responsible for the delivery of Safety, Customer Service, and Performance within their designated area of control.

    We are seeking a manager who is deadline driven and holds strong leadership skills, who ensures work is planned as efficiently as possible with the resources available.


    We are looking for managers who have strong leadership skills, who exhibit professional behaviours and inspire others with their approach and actions. The successful role holder should have previous line management experience as they will lead a team of operational staff and will be responsible for engaging with staff regularly to build relationships. The candidate will also manage staff performance and development to ensure staff perform safely and efficiently at all times.


    They will focus on the delivery of customer service; liaising regularly with customers to ensure performance objectives are met within your designated area of control.




    Essential Skills

    • Line / Supervisory Management experience
    • Operational experience on the railway
    • Train Operations Liaison Officer (TOLO)
    • Accident/Incident investigation/Report writing
    • Good communication skills and the ability to influence stakeholders across the business.
    • IOSH or equivalent safety qualification

    Desirable Skills

    • ILM or other supervisory training programme
    • Fire and first aid
    • Conflict management
    • Disciplinary and investigation handling.
    • Formal assessor and verifier qualification (A1/L12, V1 Verifier or D132/33)
    • Class 66 knowledge and relevant route and traction knowledge.



    There will be a requirement for the candidate to form part of an on-call roster, have a flexible approach to work in order to meet the demands of the role and attend cutomer offices on a regular basis.
