    We are currently seeking an Operations Manager to join GB Railfreight on a permanent basis to manage our operations in the Doncaster area. The successful candidate will be responsible for the delivery of Safety, Customer Service, and Performance within their designated area of control.

    We are seeking a manager who is deadline driven and holds strong leadership skills, who ensures work is planned as efficiently as possible with the resources available.

    Due to the nature of the operations there is a requirement for the post holder to have a flexible approach to attend work sites and customer offices on a regular basis. 


    We are looking for managers who have strong leadership skills, who exhibit professional behaviours and inspire others with their approach and actions. The successful role holder should have previous line management experience as they will lead a team of operational staff and will be responsible for engaging with staff regularly to build relationships. The candidate will also manage staff performance and development to ensure staff perform safely and efficiently at all times.


    They will focus on the delivery of customer service; liaising regularly with customers to ensure performance objectives are met.


    Essential Criteria

    This role is currently open to internal and external candidates who meet the following criteria:-

    •  Rail industry experience
    •   Commercial awareness 
    •  Previous line / supervisory management experience
    •  Accident/ incident investigation experience and report writing
    •  Methodical and organised approach ensuring compliance of safety targets
    •  Proven experience in meeting cost efficiency and implementing cost saving improvements in an operational role
    •  Competent using Microsoft office (Excel, Outlook, Word and Power-point)
    •  Time Management skills and the ability to meet regular deadlines
    •  Able to communicate and infludence decisions across the business
    •  Experience conducting presentations and ability to deliver business and safety briefs

    Desirable Criteria 

    •  ILM or attendance on an equivalent management training course
    •  Train Operations Liaison Officer (TOLO) for first line on call requirements
    •  Fire and first aid Safety certificates
    •  IOSH Safety qualification
    •  Formal assessor and verifier qualification such as A1/L12, V1 Verifier or D132/33
    •  Class 66 knowledge and relevant Route / traction knowledge
    •  Dangerous good training
    •  Loads examination
    •  Diesel and electric traction knowledge
    •  Clean safety of the line record
    •  Understanding of industry safety rules


    The successful candidate will have a flexible attitute to working hours, commited to cover on-call incident management issues outside of nominal hours. They will successfully pass a PTS medical assessment and prosess a valid, clean UK drivers licence.
