    Responsibilities

    Fleet Planning Apprentice

     

    GB Railfreight are currently recruiting an enthusiastic apprentice to work alongside our Wagon Planning Manager in our Peterborough office.  This is a demanding role and provides critical support to ensure the GB Railfreight wagon fleet meets the needs of its ever increasing customer base and train plan. Operating a 7-Day, 24 hour freight timetable requires maintenance of the wagon fleet to be conducted at specific locations, days of the week and within tight time-frames. The successful applicant will learn this skill in an environment that enables the individual to obtain a range of competencies through a structured development plan.  The role will focus on the following areas:

     

    Fleet planning – you will support the production of the weekly rolling stock fleet maintenance plan and in addition assist in the production of the shunt plan.

    Fleet management – you will become the custodian of the rolling stock Return to Service plan and attend daily stakeholder conference calls.

    Information Technology – maintain company databases that support rolling stock technical and operational data to inform business requirements.

    Cost control – you will gain an understanding of maintenance costs by reviewing maintenance invoices and reporting variances.

     

    The candidate will have the opportunity to spend time with suppliers and receive practical exposure in a wagon workshop to fully understand the range of equipment they will be managing on a day to day basis.

    Qualifications

    Qualifications/ Person Specification:

    • 4 GCSE (or equivalent) at A* - C/ Grade 9-5  (including Maths and English)
    • A-Level in Maths, Physics, would be advantageous.
    • Competent with Microsoft Office Suite Knowledge
    • Excellent time management and organisational skills.
    • Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders across the business.
