  • Overview

    The introduction of digital technoloiges within the railway industry is providing a unique opportunity for an ERTMS Operations Support Manager to join our company to support this momentous project which sees the introductin of in cab signalling. The successful candidate will be actively invovlved in the following areas:

    • Document reviews
    • Project Meetings
    • Internal communication
    • Programme support
    • Development of Training Programme and Materials

    Responsibilities

     

    1. Liaison with the ERTMS Programme Team to ensure that GBRf’s objectives and requirements are understood and are being met.
    2. The provision of input into to the development of ERTMS programme policies, strategies, plans and processes.
    3. Attend rules workshops with the aim of maximising operational flexibility in any future rules changes.
    4. Review industry operational consultation documents and ensure strategic response is provided
    5. Liaison with Network Rail routes to ensure that trackside design affords maximum operational flexibility and reduce any safety risks.
    6. Support the development, with industry partners, of ERTMS training courses.
    7. Development and implementation of an ERTMS training strategy plan including liaison with all affected GBRf operational staff and management to ensure a successful deployment.
    8. Working within Industry Groups to Undertake an outline Training Needs Analysis for Drivers and associated staff.
    9. Evaluation of driver training performance and competence, course contents, duration for safety, cost effectiveness and recommend alternative solutions.
    10. Working within industry groups to develop outline specifications for the training resources required including the provision of simulators and the identification of suitable training locations.
    11. The production and regular review of ERTMS operational material to ensure it remains sufficient, current and affective.
    12. Leading the process of challenging, reviewing and enhancing GBRf’s ERTMS operating environment and working practices, identifying opportunities to improve safety and highlighting new initiatives to reduce costs.
    13. Ensure risk Assessements are carried out and risks are mitgiated against.
    14. Reviewing the impacts of any new, or modifications to existing, in-cab ERTMS equipment that is applicable to train drivers.
    15. Representing GBRf at specific industry meetings and actioning any outcomes as required..
    16. Developing and delivering ERTMS operational safety material (Safety Briefs / Safety Training Days / SPAD Alerts / Urgent Operating Advice etc.).
    17. Reviewing industry ERTMS standards and specifying Company Standards arising therefrom.

    Qualifications

    Essential

    • Proven experience in Operations Management with at least five years’ experience in the management of railway operations
    • Thorough knowledge of all on train safety rules, regulations, standards and associated practices
    • Ability to resolve conflict and influence people at all levels within and outside the company and motivate maximum response.
    • Numerate, detail conscious and capable of effective written/verbal communications.
    • Effective interpersonal and negotiating skills.
    • Self-motivated.
    • Ability to work under pressure.

     

    Post Specific Qualifications 

    • Full (UK) Driving License
    • European Train Driving Licence
    • Instructor Qualification (NVQ 6318 or equivalent)
    • Proficient user of Microsoft Office

     

    Desirable

    • Previous exposure to in-cab signalling
    • Previous experience in operational project delivery
    • Rules and Regulations qualification

    Frequent travel within the UK will be required.
