Overview

The IT systems Administrator at GB Railfreight plays a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth operation and security of our IT infrastructure, providing 2nd line escalation to helpdesk tickets and troubleshoots system and application problems.


In this role wou will manage endpoint security with Microsoft Defender, oversee device and device policies through Microsoft Intune, and monitor security incidents with Azure Sentinel.


To be considered for this position you must have solid Solid networking and troubleshooting experience. You must be proficient in user account management, group policies, and permissions with hands-on experience installing, configuring, and maintaining desktop operating systems.


Closing date: 9th June 2025 


Salary: £28,000-£32,000 depending on experience

 

Responsibilities

 

Helpdesk Support

  • Provide 2nd Line assistance to IT Admin’s escalated tickets.
  • Assist employees with hardware and software issues; escalate tickets where necessary.

Advanced System and Security Management

  • Administer and troubleshoot Microsoft Defender for endpoint security.
  • Manage Microsoft Intune for device and mobile application management.
  • Monitor and investigate security incidents in Azure Sentinel.
  • Configure, manage, and optimize Exchange Online for efficient email delivery, secure messaging, and compliance with organisational policies.
  • Administer Mimecast and Barracuda Email Security Gateways to filter spam, prevent phishing attacks, and manage secure email encryption policies.
  • Troubleshoot email flow issues, ensuring minimal downtime and robust email system reliability.
  • Manage and maintain networking devices for Office and remote locations, ensuring network device firmware is patched as required.

Project Support

  • Providing support to IT project teams as needed.
     

Qualifications

Technical Expertise

 

  • Proficient in managing and administering Active Directory (AD), including user account management, group policies, and permissions.
  • Solid experience with networking including DHCP and DNS configuration and troubleshooting.
  • Hands-on experience installing, configuring, and maintaining desktop operating systems (e.g., Windows 10/11).
  • Skilled in setting up and managing printers, including network and local configurations.
  • Familiarity with endpoint and mobile device management tools, particularly Microsoft Intune.
  • Experience in using Microsoft Defender, Azure Sentinel, and other cybersecurity tools ensuring devices are patched as appropriate.
  • Strong knowledge of email systems, including Exchange Online, Mimecast, and Barracuda Email Security Gateway.
  • General IT administration knowledge, including hardware setup, network maintenance, and end-user support.

Experience:

  • Minimum of two years in an IT support or related role, demonstrating practical experience in resolving technical issues and providing IT solutions.
  • This role requires a full UK Driving licence as you will be required to drive to other offices/locations.
  • Familiarity with ticketing systems and IT service management tools is a plus.
  • Experience with Microsoft Intune, Azure Security services, Mimecast, Microsoft Exchange and Barracuda Email gateways.
  • Communication and Collaboration:
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to effectively liaise with vendors, colleagues, and users at all levels.
  • Excellent organisational and problem-solving abilities, ensuring efficient and reliable IT operations.

Certifications:

  • Certifications in security or email systems (e.g., Microsoft Security Operations Analyst, Mimecast Certified Specialist, or Barracuda Email Security Certification) or Cisco, HP Aruba are advantageous.
