An exciting oppotinutiy has arisen within our Control team, and we are currently seeking a Train Service Controller in our Peterborough offices. This role provides real time information for GB Railfreight services (and other operators where contracted) in order to achieve customer requirements for punctuality, reliability and service quality.
You will be responsible for the real time management of the GB Railfreight/Network Rail Track Access and haulage contracts, and associated contracts, such as traction and train crew hire. You will be proactive in monitoring all of GB Railfreight train services, in liaison with Network Rail and customer representatives, including investigation into time losses and arranging corrective actions to be taken. You will be in charge of the coordination of modified or emergency train plans in liaison with Network Rail and the Duty Control Manager.
The Control deparment is a 24/7, 365 days of the year operation. You can expect to be rostered for 12 hour shifts which include days, nights, weekend and bank holiday working.
Due to rapid growth, GB Railfreight are currently advertising for an Informed Traveller Planner based in our Doncaster offices.
The successful candidate will ensure that the train plans are developed in accordance with GBRf Standards, planning guidelines and codes of practice. They will also identify Network Rail engineering works that will influence the weekly train plan, communicating the impact of this to relevant stakeholders. This will be done in the specified time frame as determined by Network Rail guidelines.

We are looking for a Safety Performance & Risk Analyst to join our Safety department. You will be with great with Excel, ie pivot tables and producing graphs, with high attention to detail as you will be supporting with managing and analysing safety related information. You will enjoy working in a varied role which includes getting out on site to operational facilites as well as other GBRf offices. The role may also involve line management of the Safety Administrator.
Please note that internal training will be given and this will include IOSH.
The position will be based at our new Head quarters in Peterborough.
Do you have Standards Management experience with a flair for articulating yourself both verbally and via written communication? Do you have an interest in writing railway standards and enjoy seeing things through to ensure operational staff are aware and trained in new or updated standards?
The Standards Manager is a new role and is key to supporting the busines to eliminate risk and ensuring that GBRf maintain operational compliance in line with internal, group, H&S, Railway and business standards.
You will work closely and support the Head of Standards with ownership, production, updating and continuous improvement to GBRf standards, deputizing at internal stakeholder meetings.
You will engage with the Business Implementation Team to ensure that upcoming and new traffic is compliant with standards and industry best practice, attending regular meetings where applicable.
You will liaise with the Head of Resourcing and Training Manager, to identify the operational training requirements of the business and ensure all elements of governance are in place.
Due to a recent re-organisation GB Railfreight is proud to offer a new and exciting opportunity of Lead Investigator who will be responsible for the Accident and Investigation standard and process. At GBRf we are always looking to improve on the way that we carry out investigations and want to improve our learning and understanding when things go wrong.
You will work closely with the Head of Standards to build on the existing process and look to build a series of improvements using RIS-3119-TOM - Rail Industry Standard for Accident and Incident Investigation as a guide.
You will be self-motivated and proactive looking to create a training program that can be delivered to new and existing staff in the operations management team, and leading and participating in active investigating. You will take the lead in all Level 2 and 3 investigations.
You will analyse investigation reports and assess the effectiveness of the recommendations how we can prevent further accidents. You will ensure that our investigations are carried out in line with our fair culture policy, which encourages employees to take part. Where appropriate you will apply and share what was learned from an investigation throughout the organisation.
You will need an interest and experience in Accident Investigation and have excellent communication and report writing skills with a keen eye for the detail.
Our Standards team are based in Peterborough, but the role will require travel nationally to incidents, incident investigations and industry meetings.
- Create and oversee the continuous improvement of the investigation process including interviewing, evidence collection, analysis of incident and human factors and preventative actions.
- Identification, Creation and Delivery of accident and investigation training to all staff who require it (Ops Managers, Operations Standards Managers, Yard Managers) and First line on call (FLOC) and Second Line on call (SLOC)
- Contribute to the overall reduction in safety incidents by raising awareness, implementing change through lessons learnt and offering guidance
- Contribute towards the improvement in quality in the existing report writing process
